Maguire would be a big hit at United, says Foxes’ Evans

- MIKE KEEGAN

MAKING his debut for Leicester City, Jonny Evans was full of praise for his centre-back partner Harry Maguire. The former Manchester United man made his Foxes bow against Premier League new boys Wolves on a frantic afternoon which saw Jamie Vardy red-carded for a reckless second-half tackle on Matt Doherty. ‘He’s got the lot,’ said Evans of the defender who was linked with a move to United before transfer deadline day. In the recently released documentary on Manchester City’s title victory last season Pep Guardiola is filmed highlighting Maguire (right) as a weak link and identifying a perceived lack of pace. But Evans, himself linked with a move to City last term, begs to differ. ‘There’s no reason why he couldn’t play for United. He’s got the ability,’ he said. The hosts went ahead on 29 minutes when Doherty powered a header past his own keeper. City’s second came just before the break when £22m new boy James Maddison

capped a fine start to life at his new club with a deflected shot.
