THE Carrapa family have travelled from Portugal to be part of this year’s World Meeting of the Families.

Ana Sofia Carrapa and her husband Joaquim Carrapa came to Dublin with their two children, Maria Helena Costa, and João Carrapa.

The family told the Irish Daily Mail yesterday of their excitement at witnessing the historic visit of Pope Francis.

‘My mother is the most excited and is especially looking forward to the Papal Mass in the park on Sunday. We arrived in on Monday and will be here for the whole week,’ said João. ‘My sister and I were raised in a Catholic family and our parents have a strong faith. It’s very nice to be here in Ireland for this historic visit.’

A LITHUANIAN family who live in Wales are hoping for a glimpse of Pope Francis this weekend.

Antanas Milieska along with his wife Vilija and their children, Austeja Marija, eight, and Justinos, five, made the journey from Wales yesterday morning.

The family, who were yesterday looking around the RDS, where the World Meeting of the Families is being held, expressed their ‘joy’ at Pope Francis coming to Ireland. ‘We are from Lithuania but are living in Wales. It was a big event for us as a family when we heard that Pope Francis was coming to Ireland. We wanted to bring our two young children to this Catholic land and for them to hear the Word of God from the Holy Father.

‘This is our summer holiday to Ireland this year, and we couldn’t be happier.’

THE two women, who call themselves The Mothers of Hope said they are hoping for a message of optimism from the Pope. ‘We hope that Pope Francis will spread a message of hope this weekend here in Ireland,’ said Lady Oyegue.

‘Hope is a message that every Catholic needs to hear right now. We travelled all the way from Nigeria and couldn’t be happier.’

‘It’s so exciting to think that the Holy Father will be speaking to his flock this weekend and we will have a front row seat to this,’ she added.

‘Hope is never out of reach and we know that the Holy Father will deliver this message this weekend.’
