The players issue a statement through the WPGA: ‘We have stepped away from the Mayo panel for player welfare issues that are personal and sensitive to the players involved.’

The Mayo Board declare their full support for Leahy.

JULY 14

The day after his muchchange­d team defeat Cavan, Leahy claims not all players left the panel for the same reason.

JULY 18

A mediator is appointed and a series of meetings takes place involving all parties, but there is no resolution.

AUGUST 21

At a Mayo board meeting, Carnacon are thrown out of all competitio­ns.

AUGUST 30

Connacht Council overturn the Mayo decision.

SEPTEMBER 5

Mayo confirm they will appeal the Connacht decision.

Cora Staunton claims: ‘We didn’t feel it was a safe environmen­t to be in, so we decided to leave.’

SEPTEMBER 12

In an interview with Colm Parkinson, Peter Leahy claims that he has ended his silence because of Staunton’s ‘unsafe’ allegation. He also challenges the player welfare narrative: ‘Some of the players weren’t happy with my selection, simple as that.’

SEPTEMBER 17

The 12 players and two selectors who left the panel hold a press conference, alleging incidents of intimidati­on which, it was claimed, was challengin­g to their mental health.

SEPTEMBER 18

The Mayo executive reiterate their support of Leahy and allege that the players who remained were subjected to intimidati­on in an effort to stop them taking to the field for the game against Cavan.
