Freeman can’t name mystery benefactors
JOAN Freeman has said she doesn’t have permission yet to name two businessmen who gave her a loan of €120,000 to fund her campaign.
The Pieta House mental health campaigner said the two are US-based Irishmen who have helped her out in the past.
‘The names should be revealed in the next couple of days. It’s just out of courtesy and respect to them rather than giving their names out without their permission,’ she told the Irish Daily Mail. ‘They are Irish, and they are based in America.’
Ms Freeman was speaking outside Dublin’s Customs House yesterday afternoon as she submitted her nomination papers for the Presidential election. She was joined by her daughter Aisling.
Sean Gallagher arrived to submit his ballot papers earlier in the morning with his wife Trish and their young children, Bobby and Lucy.
Mr Gallagher confirmed he will not participate in tomorrow’s RTÉ Radio 1 debate due to President Higgins’s unavailability to take part.
