Tribute to London and McQueen

SHE might look like Elizabeth I after an unlikely wild night out. But this was Lady Gaga yesterday evening, paying ‘a tribute to London fashion’.

The US pop singer made a showstopping appearance in the capital for the premiere of her film A Star Is Born.

Her white gown featured a gold corseted bodice with a cut-out to showcase her cleavage, large ruffled sleeves and a harlequin print floor-length skirt.

Explaining the inspiration behind her choice of the Alexander McQueen gown, the 32-yearold said: ‘I wanted to pay tribute to him and to London fashion.’

Gaga, real name Stefani Germanotta, stars in the film with American actor Bradley Cooper, who also directs.

The movie is a remake of the 1976 version starring Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson, which itself was a remake of the 1954 Judy Garland film – based on the black and white 1937 original starring Janet Gaynor.

This is Gaga’s first lead role in a Hollywood film, but she has six Grammy awards for her music.

There is already talk that she could win an Oscar nomination for her performance, as did Streisand and Garland.

Streisand, 76, told Billboard in the US yesterday: ‘I haven’t seen the full cut, but it’s very good.’

A Star Is Born tells the story of how musician Jackson Maine (Cooper) discovers and falls in love with singer Ally (Gaga). As she finds fame with her vocal talents, their relationship begins to break down as Jackson fights an ongoing battle with his internal demons.
