Channel Hopping
LUCY Today - Channel 4, 9pm
GOD, it is depressing to think of just how far intelligent, talented and extremely rich actor types are prepared to go to keep the money rolling in. This ridiculous film stars Scarlett Johansson as an unwilling drugs mule who develops superhuman mental powers. When the credits start rolling on this, I will be at the counter of my local pub (which, just to be clear, doesn’t have a TV set).
THE CRY Tomorrow - BBC1, 9pm
STARRING Jenna Coleman and Ewen Leslie, this new four-parter is about a couple who travel Down Under from Scotland to fight for custody of his daughter. Nothing is simple, however. The blurb says: ‘Exhausted and emotional, the couple finally arrive in Australia, where unforeseen events – and the white light of public scrutiny – change their lives forever.’
WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE? Tomorrow - RTÉ1, 9.30pm
GIVEN that this episode features Bertie Ahern , a title like Who Does He Think He Is? might sound more appropriate. We are told he will ‘learn more about his Civil War-era ancestry and the revolutionary youth that his father did not like to talk about’. Which is all very well but it is difficult to escape the conclusion that this is all part of Mr Ahern’s relentless campaign for rehabilitation.
THE PEOPLE’S HISTORY OF POP Friday, 11pm - BBC4
I’M not sure there has ever been a more likeable celeb than down-toearth Twiggy. For the first of this five-parter, she looks at the rise of fans of the Beatles, Stones and others in the Sixties. It features a clip of John Lennon’s first recorded performance with The Quarrymen.
