D’oh! Doughnut drive-thru just too jammers to open through the night

- By Dora Allday

KRISPY Kreme’s 24-hour doughnut store which opened in Dublin last week has been forced to reduce its hours because hundreds of queuing customers kept neighbours awake beeping their horns as late as 2.30am.

The drive-thru will now close between 11.30pm and 6am after noise complaints from Blanchardstown residents.

For the past week, hundreds of cars have lined up for a sugar hit, prompting staff to designate a separate car park for Krispy Kreme customers.

Krispy Kreme’s UK and Ireland CEO Richard Cheshire admitted demand had far surpassed their expectations.

‘We anticipated a warm welcome for Krispy Kreme in Ireland and have long wanted to open a store here, but the response has been way ahead of our most optimistic expectations,’ he said, promising the shop’s neighbours they would make changes.

The cacophony of horns prompted at least one complaint to the Noise and Air Pollution section of Finglas County Council.

The store was Krispy Kreme’s first in Ireland and one of more than 1,300 worldwide. Inside, it can seat up to 77 people and accommodates for takeaway purchases of its doughnuts in 16 different flavours. The company say the in-store queue time is between 10 and 20 minutes.

One clearly irate Twitter user said: ‘They’ve closed the drivethru at Krispy Kreme because it’s so busy. I want all the people driving to Blanchardstown for donuts to take a long hard look at themselves and then get in the sea.’
