A WOMAN has appeared in court accused of the bloody murder of a man in the upmarket Dublin suburb of Foxrock.

Grace Miano, aged 50, was brought before Dublin District Court yesterday following the death of 27-year-old Malawian man Limbani Mzoma.

Ms Miano, a Kenyan native, was arrested on Friday after the body of Mr Mzoma was found with multiple stab wounds at a house at 11.30pm on Thursday.

Detective Sergeant Colm Ó Giolláin from Cabinteely Garda Station told the court Ms Miano made no reply after she was charged and cautioned at 9.35pm on Saturday at the station.

The court heard Ms Miano had complained of pains in her head and legs since being taken into Garda custody and that she had been seen by a doctor at the station ‘on several occasions’.

She requested a medical and psychiatric assessment.

Judge Gráinne Malone directed that the accused should receive medical attention and that her solicitor, Jonathan Dunphy, should liaise with authorities to have a psychiatric assessment carried out if required.

Ms Miano was remanded in custody to appear at Dún Laoghaire District Court on Friday. She was granted free legal aid after the court was told she was on social welfare. Judge Malone said that if there was to be an application for bail it should be made to the High Court.

Ms Miano appeared in court wearing a blonde wig with rusty brown hair showing underneath. She was wearing a black sweater with a white T-shirt underneath and grey tracksuit bottoms.

She had sat resting her head in her hands while waiting for the case to begin yesterday and she sat with two male and one female gardaí. Earlier she had waved and appeared to smile at press photographers as an unmarked Garda car brought her to the back entrance of the court building, located close to the main entrance of the Phoenix Park.

Meanwhile, a post-mortem examination on Mr Mzoma’s body has been completed. It is thought that Mr Mzoma sustained a violent attack and his private parts were removed.

Ms Miano, of Tudor Lawns in Foxrock, Dublin, is originally from a small southern Kenyan town not far from the Tanzanian border.

She graduated from college in Ireland as a mature student.

Mr Mzoma, who was also known as Robert, was originally from Malawi but is believed to have been living in Ireland for a number of years.

The alarm was raised after his housemates reported the scene to authorities. The body was removed from the scene the following day.

Mr Mzoma is understood to have rented the house in Tudor Lawns, Foxrock, with a number of other tenants from Ireland and Africa.

Gardaí had been reportedly called to the home on a number of occasions after neighbours complained of loud parties.

Earlier on Thursday afternoon gardaí from Cabinteely Garda station were called to the house in response to an alleged public order incident but left after the situation seemed to be under control.

Mr Mzoma was allegedly stabbed more than a dozen times in his chest, neck and back.
