Wildfires in California leave at least five dead
FIVE people have been killed in a southern California wildfire as a blaze raging in the north of the state triggered a mandatory evacuation order for much of exclusive beachside Malibu.
The victims’ bodies were found in vehicles consumed by the flames in Paradise town, north-east of San Francisco.
A separate wildfire north-west of Los Angeles has roared south, sweeping into the Santa Monica Mountains yesterday.
The exclusive coastal town of Malibu, home to many Hollywood stars, has about 13,000 residents and lies at the southern edge of the mountain range.
The California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services says another fire in northern California has also claimed lives.
