Party season Sidekicks
DO YOU have a collection of shimmery curtain earrings ? Do you always throw on a silky scarf before leaving the house? Is your grandma’s brooch on your coat pocket? What I’m asking is, can you live without accessories?
Small, devilish details can work wonders, especially at this time of year, to add extra pizzazz when rushing from the office to festive events. Anything from glitzy earrings to an embellished clutch can transform an underwhelming black dress or a boring white blouse into something special. In the same way, chunky velvet heels and lacy tights make such a difference under an otherwise plain, pleated midi skirt.
The trend for jewellery is big, bold but measured. My go-to pieces are Zara’s three-tier black heart earrings and some two-stone sparkly drop earrings by Merle O’Grady at MoMuse in Powerscourt Townhouse (Penneys has a similar pair). Both are simple, elegant, yet show-stopping.
I also have a grá for hair accessories such as embellished clips and velvet bows. Irish designer Niamh O’Neill’s barrettes are every girl’s dream.
On the shoe front, if you don’t have some classics (mine are a pair of green velvet Chloe shoes I bought in a charity shop for a steal), Vestiaire Collective
(vestiairecollective.com) has the ultimate treat-yourself designer party shoes for a fraction of the price while Folkster in Dublin’s Temple Bar has some glitzy treasures, too.
