MARY’S BIG RETURN — BREEZING IN ON A BROLLY

THE original 1964 Mary Poppins was set in 1910. The sequel, Mary Poppins Returns, which cost an estimated €168million, moves the action to 1934.

Mary (Emily Blunt) is called back to help former charge Michael Banks (Ben Whishaw), a widowed father of three with money troubles. Emily Blunt’s fear of heights made filming the arrival scene a real challenge. She says: ‘I was 50ft in the air and so scared. As I landed, one of the camera guys said: “I got really choked watching you arrive there.”

‘It reminded me that people really need a film and a moment like this.’
