STREEP GOES HEAD OVER HEELS

-

MARY is joined by her cousin, Topsy Tartlet, played by Oscar winner Meryl Streep, right.

She has a fix-it shop in which everything, from grand pianos to china and statues, turns upside down on a Tuesday.

Topsy even sings her song Turning Turtle upside down from a chandelier.

Topsy’s costume — inspired by Bohemian poet Edith Sitwell — was based on some Twenties vintage pyjamas and a kimono. Artists hand-painted the material with Art Deco patterns of orange, pink, turquoise and yellow.

To complete the look, Streep asked for an orange wig cut into a bob, topped off with a green turban and curtain tassles for earrings.
