On-screen kiss was like a ‘lottery win’ for Olivia

- By Alisha Rouse

HER latest big-screen role has seen her tipped to pick up a Golden Globe award and possibly an Oscar.

But Olivia Colman says that starring in The Favourite was already like winning the lottery – because she got to kiss Rachel Weisz.

The pair share intimate scenes in the film, in which Ms Colman plays Queen Anne, who some historians say was gay, while Ms Weisz is a member of her court.

Speaking about sex scenes, Ms Colman, 44, said: ‘I tend to try to avoid anything like that because it makes me giggle. I get very embarrassed. Snogging is fine, because snogging Rachel Weisz is, you know, like you’ve won the lottery!’

The actress, who is married to actor and writer Ed Sinclair, and Ms Weisz, 48, whose husband is James Bond star Daniel Craig, also share steamy scenes with American Oscar-winner Emma Stone, 30. Ms Colman said it helped that the trio bonded in rehearsals, so they were already good pals.

‘We’d rolled on the floor and giggled and eaten together and shared everything and become genuinely very good friends,’ she said.

‘So when we had to do this, it was like, “Come on, we can do it”.’

Ms Colman, who made her breakthrough in the sitcom Peep Show, is nominated for a Best Actress award at the Golden Globes on Sunday.

The Oscar nominations will be announced on January 22.
