Irishman sought over hit on Costa expat

- By Gerard Couzens

SPANISH police probing the violent death of an Irish father-of-two have issued an arrest warrant for a second man suspected of witnessing the killing and helping to bury his body.

A judge in the holiday resort of Torrevieja, who is leading the inquiry into Carl Carr’s death, has asked police forces across Europe to detain a 26-year-old Irishman.

Dubliner Carr’s body was found at the end of last week in a shallow grave, five months after he was reported missing.

Kilkenny man Wayne Walsh, a former flatmate of the dead man, is in custody while the investigation continues. His ex-girlfriend – 23year-old British model Mily Leonard – has also been arrested along with a second British expat called Natalie Edwards and an unnamed Spanish handyman, all on suspicion of concealing the crime.

A third woman – another Briton who has not been named – was arrested on suspicion of making a false statement and remains under investigation, but was not sent to prison.

Officials could not be reached yesterday to offer more details about the European Arrest Warrant for the man they’re seeking.

He is understood to have left Spain shortly after Mr Carr, 38, vanished on September 16 last year – following a night out with Ms Leonard and Ms Edwards.

None of the five have been charged, as is normal in Spain

‘Nothing to do with drugs’

where formal charges are only laid shortly before trial. Their status is that of ‘investigados’, a legal term in Spain which literally means ‘under investigation’.

Mr Carr’s body was found buried by the AP-7 motorway between Benijofar and Algorfa on the Costa Blanca, a 20-minute drive north from where the Dubliner was last seen in September.

Police say they believe he was killed before his body was driven to woods and buried alongside bleach used in a clean-up operation to hide the crime.

The dead drug dealer’s grieving mother Marie said: ‘The Spanish police have told me Carl’s death has nothing to do with drugs. I believe he was killed because of a romantic triangle, by a man he knew who accused him of dating one of his girlfriends.’
