NOT SO GLAMMY GRAMMYS

Red carpet fashions hit the wrong note at music awards

- By Alisha Rouse

IT was the night that saw women dominate the awards for music – and pick up several brickbats for their fashion sense.

Leading the way in both at the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles was rapper Cardi B.

The former stripper, 26, became the first female to win Best Rap Album but left fans shell-shocked with a Mugler dress that resembled an opening oyster, complete with dozens of pearls. Her younger sister Hennessy Carolina, 23, wore a neon orange blazer with huge puffed sleeves – and no trousers.

A tearful Dua Lipa, 23, who won Best New Artist, tearfully collected her award in a revealing monochrome Versace gown that was held together with a selection of over-sized safety pins. It drew comparisons with another Versace creation – the famous black number incorporating large gold safety pins that Liz Hurley wore to accompany Hugh Grant to the premiere of Four Weddings And A Funeral in 1994.

Katy Perry’s pink and silver outfit with plumped skirt drew caustic comments, one online spoof showing it as carwash brushes and others likening it to a bowling pin. Soul veteran Diana Ross showed the others how it was done – the 74-year-old dazzled in a red dress as she sang her 1993 hit The Best Years Of My Life.
