-

A MEASLES outbreak in Co. Donegal has escalated with several new cases now suspected.

The HSE last week revealed two confirmed cases of the highly infectious disease. But now the authority has confirmed three more probable cases, with several more potential cases being investigated.

A statement issued by the HSE said measles can have serious complications, especially for infants under 12 months and those with weakened immune systems.

The statement said: ‘We advise anyone who is worried that they may have measles to call their GP first and inform them. This is because you might be infectious to others at the GP surgery. Your GP will be able to make special arrangements for you to come in and see him or her and do tests to confirm your diagnosis.’

The initial outbreak is Donegal is suspected to be linked with a thirdlevel college in Galway.
