Keith is off hard stuff but not the black stuff

- By Jennifer Ruby

HE’S been the poster boy for rock’n’roll excess ever since he rose to fame in the 1960s.

But at 75, Keith Richards says he is cleaning up his lifestyle. A little.

The Rolling Stones guitarist revealed he is cutting out spirits after an indulgent December, in which he celebrated his milestone birthday and 35 years with Patti Hansen.

‘I’ve knocked the hard stuff on the head. I have a little wine with meals, and a Guinness or a beer or two – but otherwise, no,’ Richards told Mojo magazine. ‘It’s like heroin – the experiment is over. It’s just it’s not on the daily menu any more.’

Richards is also cutting back on cigarettes: ‘I realised it’s just a useless habit. But hey, when you’re 75, habits are pretty ingrained.’

While he might be improving his lifestyle, Richards admitted he still refuses to exercise as he doesn’t want to ‘damage his joints’.

The Stones are gearing up for their first US tour for four years, which kicks off in April.
