JOHN Nettles’s DS Jim Bergerac, a recovering alcoholic who had an eye for the ladies, was a firm favourite in many households. A replacemen­t for Trevor Eve’s Shoestring in 1981, the series ran for ten years and begins a weekday repeat from the first episode here.

THE Gunners cruised through their Europa League group undefeated, and now face the Belarus side they beat 4-2 and 6-0 last season. The game is also screened on Virgin Media Two. VINTAGE VEHICLE Car SOS Special: 7 Day Challenge, 8pm, National Geographic

IN this cheery new two-parter, Fuzz Townshend and Tim Shaw have given themselves a week to restore a 1959 Land Rover that has a moving family history. While they work, Ross Kemp drops in to talk about engines.

THE 100th episode of this spiritual successor to The West Wing is also the first of a two-parter and the midseason finale. The Secretary of State (the excellent Téa Leoni, pictured) fights a governor over his state’s Trump-like policy of separating immigrants from their children.

TRUE CRIME TALE Dirty John, Netflix

CONNIE Britton and Eric Bana star in Netflix’s compelling drama about online dating gone very wrong. It’s based on a true story and an LA Times podcast of the same name.

MODERN ROMANCE Electric Love, 9.50pm, Sky Premiere

TIMED to premiere on Valentine’s Day, this is a romcom for the era of love at first swipe, following Los Angeles couples who meet via popular dating apps.

SERIAL KILLER The Lost Tapes, 10pm, Smithsonia­n

AN eerie new series that recreates historical events using only footage that was around at the time. This episode tracks the steady realisatio­n that, in 1976 and 1977, the New York police were hunting a serial killer — David Berkowitz, the ‘Son of Sam’. (Sky 195)

BAWDY DRAMA Harlots, Starzplay (via Amazon Prime)

SEASON two of this drama about Georgian prostitute­s has had an injection of pace. Liv Tyler joins a strong cast that includes Lesley Manville, Samantha Morton and Jessica Brown Findlay.

THE BIG O Roy Orbison: Love Hurts, 11pm, BBC4

ROY Orbison achieved superstar status in the 60s, writing and releasing a series of smash singles such as Oh, Pretty Woman. But he had terrible misfortune in his personal life, losing his wife and two children in tragedies.
