Woman ‘may have lain dead for a few days’

AN elderly woman whose body was found at her home may have been dead for several days, it is understood.

She was surrounded by her pet cats when she was found on Thursday evening. Gardaí are not treating the discovery as suspicious.

The woman’s body was found when the driver of a food delivery van attempted to drop groceries into her house in Castlecomer, Co. Kilkenny. The man alerted the emergency services and gardaí when he couldn’t get into the house, and they were quickly on the scene.

Two ambulances arrived at the house and paramedics eventually gained entry.

The woman’s remains were transferred to Waterford University Hospital for a post mortem.
