edited out some of the biggest clangers in Joanna Lumley’s unfunny opening monologue, when it repeated coverage of last weekend’s Baftas. There were times when the audience fell so silent, during her toe-curling turn, that tumbleweed drifted across the stage… especially the gag about so many guests having second wives. And from the puzzled looks that greeted her cringiest gag, you could tell some were wondering if the ‘Klan Film Festival’ was a real event they just hadn’t heard of, or a bad pun on Cannes… and they couldn’t decide which was worse.
