Rory will not be rushed in hunt for Grand Slam

-

RORY McIlroy’s patience, and maturity as one of the world’s greatest sportsmen, is a lesson to us all in multiple ways.

This week, three months away from turning 30 and two months away from another tilt at the Masters and, with it, achieving the Grand Slam, McIlroy was remarkably sanguine about the pressures placed on him.

‘It’s not hard to be patient,’ he told us, after being paired with Tiger Woods in the first round of the Genesis Open.

‘It might have been in the past but it’s far easier now,’ he continued.

‘You’ll hear me talk a lot now about it being a 25-year journey and that’s the way to look at it, rather than worry about the here and now.’

Well said, Rory (right). We’re all guilty of pushing the man. It is good to have him reply by saying he’s not going to be rushed through his life.

There’s a lesson in there for all of us in our own lives — and perhaps we should all go and purchase a copy of Malcolm Gladwell’s

David and Goliath which McIlroy has just devoured.
