Toy Show boy wins for Davy

- By Ronan Smyth

WEXFORD hurling manager Davy Fitzgerald has honoured his promise to a boy he met on The Late Late Toy Show last year by letting him give a team talk to his players.

And Michael O’Brien’s words proved just the tonic as Wexford came from behind for a narrow one-point win yesterday.

The 11-year-old from Kerry is legally blind and couldn’t believe it when, during the Toy Show, host Ryan Tubridy told him that he was sitting beside his hero.

Clare man Mr Fitzgerald told Michael at the time that his team had three big matches coming up, against Tipperary, Limerick and Kilkenny, before offering him the opportunity to deliver a pre-match pep talk to the Wexford hurling team

Yesterday, Michael did just that, speaking to the team before the their 1-15 to 1-14 Allianz League victory over Tipperary at Wexford Park.

After the win, Wexford GAA said on Twitter that Michael was welcome back any time, calling him a ‘good luck charm’.
