Slum fire kills 9 in Bangladesh
AT least nine people have died in a fire at a slum in Bangladesh.
The blaze broke out early yesterday morning in the Chaktai area of Chittagong city – which is located 215km southeast of the country’s capital, Dhaka – while the slum dwellers were asleep.
At least 200 shanty homes were gutted before firefighters brought the blaze under control. Four of the dead were from a single family.
An investigation into the cause of the fire has been ordered.
