Now spend £1.5m windfall on new training ground, says boss Flynn

- JACK GAUGHAN

MICHAEL FLYNN has told the Newport County board to invest their Cup windfall in a new training ground. The League Two side have earned around £1.5million from their FA Cup exploits over the past two seasons, with £250,000 from the televised game against Manchester City alone. Newport’s current training base is councilowned and shared with the public. ‘I want a training ground built,’ said Flynn. ‘I don’t want the club wasting money that’s been made and 18 months down the line being skint and asking for money again. ‘Whether the training ground is possible, it’s not my decision. ‘We definitely need to do something to have an asset.’ Newport were left to rue Ederson’s save from Tyreeq Bakinson’s header at 0-0. ‘It was one of those slow-motion moments,’ Bakinson said. ‘I will replay it in my head for a while.’
