Accused denies club massacre
THE main suspect on trial for a New Year’s Eve mass shooting that left 39 people dead in Istanbul has denied being the shooter.
Abdulkadir Masharipov, right, rejected all charges against him. On January 1, 2017, an assailant shot his way into Istanbul’s Reina club.
The assailant escaped and Isis claimed responsibility. Uzbek national Mr Masharipov was arrested 15 days later. In total, 58 suspects, mostly foreigners, are on trial, of whom 39 are in custody.
