Vicious circle of drinking more

DRINKING heavily creates an even greater craving for alcohol, suggests a study in the journal Alcoholism: Clinical & Experimental Research.

Scientists compared moderate, binge and heavy drinkers. In the binge and heavy drinkers, they found that alcohol had altered two genes responsible for the body’s biological clock and stress responses. When their motivation to drink was evaluated, the changes were found to be associated with a greater desire for alcohol. The researchers say the findings may help them to predict an individual’s risk for heavy drinking.
