HE’S the Irish rugby hunk who has just landed on Love Island – but did he sell a dummy on his romantic plans and who he had his eye on?
Greg O’Shea admitted to being keen on Longford woman Maura Higgins before entering the villa – but he has made a move on lovelorn Amber Gill.
In last night’s episode of the sundrenched reality show, the Limerick rugby player made his official debut in the villa and picked Amber – who was dumped by Michael Griffiths – for his first date.
As new arrivals India Reynolds and Harley Brash decided they wanted to whisk Ovie Soko and Chris Taylor away for some dates, Amber received a text informing her she would also be heading out for a bit of potential romance with the Irish hunk. Greg, 24, grew up in Limerick and won the 2013 Munster Senior Cup with his school, Crescent College. And he hopes to play rugby sevens for Ireland at next year’s Olympics.
He said of Longford model Maura, 28, before his arrival: ‘I need to get in the villa and see what the story is and who is good craic!
‘I’d say me and Maura will hit it off straight away, being two Irish people and she’s hilarious. She’s very naturally funny and she’s gorgeous as well, so you never know.’
Greg’s sister spoke out yesterday about the decision of her ‘baby brother’ to go on the show, which came as a shock to his family. ‘It was a shock to say the least,’ Laura O’Shea said. ‘We found out with everybody else. He kept it a secret the whole time, so the shock was very large in our house last night in Corbally. He took off to Majorca from Paris. We got a few weird requests for a couple of pairs of shorts and sunglasses.
‘We thought he may have met a girl in Paris – he was packing a bag for Majorca!’
Ms O’Shea told Today FM the family had not been fans of the show, and have been hastily catching up on the happenings to prepare for Greg’s TV appearance.
‘We haven’t been following it in our house, so we’ve been catching up for tonight when it all kicks off,’ she said. Speaking of Maura, who Greg reportedly has his eye on, she said: ‘She seems like a bit of craic. We’ll just have to see – there’s a lot of women in there and he’s not afraid to put himself out there.’
However, Maura is currently wooing Curtis Pritchard, a pro dancer on RTÉ’s Dancing With The Stars.
