DEAN SAUNDERS has been jailed for 10 weeks for refusing to provide a roadside breath test. The former Liverpool and Wales striker, 55, was stopped by police on suspicion of drink-driving in Chester on May 10. Saunders was slurring and had to prop himself up against his car when he was asked to get out of the vehicle, Chester Magistrates’ Court heard. District Judge Nicholas Sanders called him ‘arrogant’. Saunders told the court he had been at Chester Races and had drunk two pints. He is believed to be appealing against the sentence.

DERBY and Nottingham Forest have launched a joint investigation into an alleged bust-up involving Derby captain Richard Keogh and a Forest groundsman following the Rams’ 3-0 Carabao Cup defeat on Tuesday. Republic of Ireland defender Keogh was left with scratch marks on his neck after the scuffle, which took place on the field as the visitors warmed down after the tie.

MICHAIL ANTONIO will have a scan today on his hamstring injury. The West Ham winger, who has had a number of hamstring problems, pulled up eight minutes into the Carabao Cup win at Newport on Tuesday.

NORWICH City manager Daniel Farke is backing Irish U21 striker Adam Idah to recover from his traumatic first team debut in the EFL Cup. Idah deflected a shot into his own net as the Premier Division club were stunned by Crawley of League Two on Tuesday night. ‘It was important to give Adam Idah his debut on this level,’ said Farke. ‘He is probably the most disappointed guy in the dressing room because he scored an own goal and missed several chances. It’s up to me to back the player because he needs the experience to step up in his career.’

STRIKERS Kyle Lafferty and Linfield’s Shayne Lavery have not been included in the 25-man Northern Ireland squad for the games against Luxembourg and Germany next month. Lafferty signed for Norwegian side Sarpsborg 08 earlier this week.
