Farrell’s new film role... in production

- By Jim Gallagher news@dailymail.ie

COLIN Farrell has launched his own production company and announced his first film.

The Hollywood star, who set up Chapel Place Productions with his sister and manager Claudine, will adapt Irish writer Dervla McTiernan’s crime thriller The Ruin for the big screen.

The action is set in Galway and follows detective Cormac Reilly as he is thrown back into a 20-year-old case that has haunted him, involving two children whose mother died of an overdose.

The Ruin is described as a twisting tale that delves into the dark heart of Ireland, examining Garda corruption and the abuses of the Church as seen through the eyes of the detective.

The book was McTiernan’s debut novel and was the first in a Cormac Reilly series. A sequel, The Scholar, was published in March 2019.

The film will see Farrell, 43, reunited with The Lobster producer and former Element Pictures executive Lee Magiday, who produced last year’s Oscar-winning The Favourite.

They have partnered with Australia’s Hopscotch Features to develop and produce The Ruin.

‘We’re thrilled to be bringing Dervla’s page-turning novel to the screen, and we couldn’t have better partners than Lee, Claudine and Colin,’ Hopscotch’s Troy Lum told The Hollywood Reporter.

No cast has yet been announced for the project, including whether Farrell will take a role.
