The sassy Dubliner tipped to add spice to Love Island

But is the villa ready for her Dub lingo?

- By Niamh Walsh

AFTER Greg O’Shea and Maura Higgins set the hearts a-throbbing last time, it was inevitable TV bosses would look to our own love island for their latest attraction.

But they may have got more than they bargained for with the earthy, ahem, charm of Dublin city party girl Saffron Thompson.

The bubbly blonde, who is fond of the voluble vernacular of her native city, has already jetted out to South Africa where Bray’s Laura Whitmore is hosting Love Island.

The East Wall Instagrammer packed two large suitcases this week for Heathrow Airport, where she stopped for the obligatory Instapose travel pout in a blue tracksuit, with her Louis Vuitton backpack in shot, of course. The 20-year-old has attempted to deflect from her final destination, telling followers she is simply on her way to Ibiza.

In January? When the beaches, bars and clubs have closed for the season? One suspects not.

Besides, close friends have been taking to her Instagram page with messages of support, telling her to ‘go and kill it’, which would be quite strange were she off to Ibiza for a package holiday. And, if that wasn’t enough, Saffron met up with three girls from the UK at Heathrow, where they enjoyed some cocktails and one of them shared a picture of her boarding card, which clearly showed they were heading for Cape Town.

In fact, sources have told the Irish Daily Mail that Saffron is headed to Cape Town to join the villa. Ahead of departing Dublin, she hit the hair and beauty salons to have her blonde highlights topped up, extensions added and some tropical nail art applied.

Saffron’s strong Dublin accent and local lingo could, much like last season’s Maura Higgins, prove a showstopper, along with her good looks and bikini body, of course. Producers of the ITV reality show were scouting for Irish stars earlier this year and last year’s winner Greg O’Shea was contacted by various people on social media asking him ‘what to do and say in the interview’.

And after last years success for both Greg and Maura, it is no surprise that some Irish wannabes would be heading to South

Africa for the very first winter instalment of the show.

Love Island has proved a huge ratings draw for Virgin Media One, with the station saying last year’s final attracted 653,000 views of the episode across all of its platforms.

Laura Whitmore, 34, who took over hosting duties, is also proving a hit on the show with her sense of fun, fashion and flair for reality television wooing viewers. ITV have confirmed that a ‘blonde bombshell’ is set to enter the villa but refused to say if Saffron is the sassy, sexy lady who is ready to set the Cape alight.
