BLISS ON BLASKET
MORE than 23,000 people from around the globe have applied for a two-person job running a coffee shop and three small rental cottages on Great Blasket Island, despite, or probably because of, the fact that the uninhabited island has no WiFi, no electricity and no hot water.
The opportunity to escape the modern world, and the appeal of a job free of emails, social media alerts and the obligation to be ‘on’ 24/7, not to mention Brexit, elections, climate anxiety and Donald Trump, clearly appealed to many stressed souls.
Now all they need is for the 22,998 unsuccessful candidates to book a weekend on the island, which will keep it in business for the next 30 years.
