A HAVEN FOR BILLIONAIRES
IRELAND is one of the top five billionaire-producing countries in the world, just behind Hong Kong, Cyprus, Switzerland and Singapore. We have turned out more billionaires per capita than Britain, the US, or even Monaco and Liechtenstein. Our home-produced billionaires are part of that small club who own more than 60% of the world’s population put together. And if we could persuade them to pay even 0.5% more tax for just a single decade, according to Oxfam, we could afford countless extra health, childcare and elderly care workers. What a shame that so much of our billionaires’ loot – like our finest beef, butter and whiskey – is strictly for the export market.
