THE ‘UNTOUCHABLES’
Johnny Sexton
There was a strong argument towards building for the future by installing Ross Byrne at 10 but once Farrell handed the captaincy to Sexton, that option was off the table and now the 2018 World Player of the Year has to oversee the rebuilding process.
Tadhg Furlong
Andrew Porter is progressing very nicely as back-up but 27-year-old Furlong remains an elite presence at tighthead, heading into the peak period of his career.
James Ryan
Still only 23, Ryan would have been a progressive choice as captain but that day will come. Nailed on in the second row since his first start in 2017.
Josh van der Flier
The only specialist openside in the squad, Jack O’Donoghue has been excelling there for Munster but Van der Flier has been quietly going about his business at No7 as part of a supremely efficient Leinster operation.
Garry Ringrose
An out-and-out 13 in the best, gliding traditions of Leinster and Ireland predecessors Brian O’Driscoll and Brendan Mullin, Ringrose is enjoying an excellent season.
