Lampard’s Cavani love affair

- By DANIEL MATTHEWS and ADRIAN KAJUMBA

FRANK LAMPARD has hinted Chelsea could move for Edinson Cavani, admitting he has always loved the Uruguay star. Paris Saint-Germain want £21million for the 32-year-old, who is out of contract in the summer but wants to leave this month, and have already rejected an £8.5m bid from Atletico Madrid. Lampard is seeking a striker who can provide competition for Tammy Abraham, with Olivier Giroud likely to leave. ‘I played against Cavani and I always loved his mentality and attitude. His goalscoring record speaks for itself,’ said Lampard. ‘I’m not aware of his situation, so we’ll see.’ Cavani has had minimal game time at PSG this season but would add pedigree to Chelsea’s squad. Lampard is not put off by his age, despite Gonzalo Higuain and Radamel Falcao’s unhappy spells at the club. ‘The idea of bringing in experience is something I’m certainly not looking away from,’ he added ahead of tonight’s clash with Arsenal. ‘Sometimes the young players need a bit of help.’ Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta has warned his Arsenal players they must start stringing wins together or reaching the top four will be impossible. The Gunners sit 10 points adrift of Chelsea with only two wins in their last 15 league games. Arteta said: ‘It’s very, very important for us to win this game. If we are able to win three or four games on the trot, we are right up there.’
