Double blow for wedding couple

-

A WORRIED groom-to-be has been hit on two fronts by the coronavirus which is threatening both his wedding plans and his business.

Charlie Baliczki’s marriage to fiancée Sorcha Downey in his native Hungary next month hangs in the balance with European borders closing on a daily basis to curtail the spread of Covid-19.

On top of that his successful cleaning business, Flying Rug, is also being hit hard by the situation as clients no longer want people coming into their homes or have a lesser demand due to staff working from home.

Charlie, 36, and Sorcha, 29, who live in Bettystown, Co. Meath, are due to fly out from Ireland to Hungary with 23 guests for the wedding on April 18, so are following Covid-19 developments closely.

Another four are due to fly from Germany and the Maid of Honour is coming from the UK

‘Sorcha and I don’t know what is ahead. Wedding plans are stressful at the best of times and we had a huge amount of paperwork to fill out for the wedding abroad, and now we are not sure what will happen,’ he said.

‘As of last week, the borders are closed into Hungary to citizens of Italy, South Korea, Iran, Israel and China and not sure how this will change.

‘If we cancel, we lose our €2,000 deposit and if we get married, we are only allowed up to 15 people at the ceremony and not allowed any reception.

‘We can possibly move the date but then our guests might lose their money in booked flights and accommodation and many have booked the dates as holidays and can’t change them.

‘We don’t know what we will do. It is another month so things could change either way but we don’t want to have to change plans last minute. We’ve planned this for so long and now it’s out of our control to a certain degree,’ Charlie added.
