Boy, 8, dies after being attacked by dogs at his home
AN EIGHT-YEAR-OLD boy has lost his fight for life after being mauled by two Rottweiler dogs at his home in Dublin.
The child died yesterday at Crumlin children’s hospital, despite the best efforts of medics to save his life.
At around 4pm on Sunday, the young boy was seriously injured in an attack by the two family pets at his home in the Tallaght area of south Dublin.
The child was taken to Tallaght Hospital before being moved to Crumlin children’s hospital later on Sunday.
The dog warden was notified and the dogs were duly confiscated. Both Rottweilers were later put down.
A full investigation into the incident is under way by gardaí at Tallaght station. The matter is being treated as a tragic incident by investigators.
Gardaí and the emergency services rushed to the scene when the alarm was raised following a 999 call.
When they got there, they discovered the young boy with life-threatening injuries.
Gardaí said in a statement at the time: ‘At approximately 4pm on Sunday, a male child (8) was seriously injured following a reported attack by a number of dogs at a house in the Tallaght area.’
The house where the attack took place is a detached property off the Blessington Road.
A container storage business is also run from the same address, with the storage units situated beside and behind the house, according to reports.
Garda confirmed at lunchtime yesterday that the young boy had tragically died following the attack by dogs at his home. An Garda Síochána has asked that the family’s request for privacy be adhered to.
