Action is badly needed to help our sport clubs survive crisis
CONSIDERING the dire financial state of all sport in Ireland, due to the effect of the coronavirus, it would be nice to see all those multi-millionaires and billionaires living within the State getting together and coming up with some sort of rescue package to help these sporting entities through the tough times ahead.
Some soccer clubs are already struggling to survive and are unable to pay their players.
Another thought: let’s use the millions of euro that would have been spent on the Olympic Games this year to help these endangered sports survive. FRANK CAROLAN,

Seed of a good idea
GROWING some of your own food is easy and rewarding.
Even if you live in a flat you can grow seeds in pots by a window or on a balcony.
Potatoes can be grown in a container; onions, beans and peas fill you up; while fast-growing salads are a very good way to get your greens.
There is no need to panic buy as there are lots of seeds in a packet.

Faith is required
THE UN, EU and certain environmentalists have falsely claimed the population of world greatly exceeds what it should be, and needs to be cut for the benefit of the environment and wildlife.
No doubt, our environmentalists will tell us that the side-effects of Covid–19, bringing air travel and public transport almost to a standstill and traffic to a trickle, will greatly reduce carbon emissions, albeit temporary, until the crisis is over. But at what price. The deaths of thousands, especially the elderly and vulnerable people, and the middle-aged.
Climate change is happening and mankind is responsible to a degree. But God is in charge, and we are leaving Him out of the equation – and we do so at our peril. Even now, when this coronavirus is rampant, we should say ‘God bless’ when someone sneezes, but now it is ‘bless you’.
God has loved us from all eternity, He has created us to know, love and serve Him. He suffered and died for our salvation, so that we can enjoy eternal happiness in Heaven. I believe the only solution is for all of us is to turn to God, and to the pray the Rosary every day, while we are waiting for the development of a vaccine.

Taxing times...
SOME things remain the same. This morning I received a reminder that my car tax must be renewed on March 31.
I also received this same directive on March 2, so I believe this is in the ‘crisis, what crisis?’ category on behalf of those who rule over us. We live in heightened ‘death and taxes’ times. Be careful not to break their little laws is what we will always be warned. ROBERT SULLIVAN,

Lessons not learned
WE have been taken unawares by a horrendous pandemic, but fortunately can turn to medical expertise at a peak of excellence in this unprecedented age of technological and scientific genius and ability. It will take time, but we can be confident a vaccine will be found to keep this virus at bay.
Sadly, we cannot have the same confidence in those that control and administer economic activity, that they will achieve similar success and protect us from what some say could be the greatest economic collapse ever.
In this era of technological genius, the world should be economically capable of withstanding any pandemic or global catastrophe, but nothing has been learned from the crash of 2008.
In fact the cause of that catastrophe has never been adequately investigated, debated, understood or acted on.
