Meanwhile, Jimmy’s search for an assistant provides the comic relief.

IN part two of this powerful crime drama, we flash back to Valeria in 1998, listening to her CD player on an ominous family trip. Back in the present, the now Detective Valeria (Miriam Leone) confronts Menduni in person, gun levelled at his chest, tears streaming down her face.

THE ramshackle Eel Pie Island Hotel was the venue for many a gig by future greats, from the Rolling Stones to Pink Floyd, Rod Stewart, David Bowie and Elton John. Stewart is among the interviewe­es for this nostalgic documentar­y, as is The Kinks’ Mick Avory.

FIRST of four onehour chunks of this mesmerisin­g and seamlessly edited profile of the singer, made by Oscarwinne­r Alex Gibney for HBO. It’s a fascinatin­g look at the often colourful life of Sinatra, and draws on a rich selection of archive footage.
