Being Gail Porter

11.30PM, BBC2 IT’S something we read about all too often – the dark side of celebrity life. Gail Porter was your typical, lively, chatty outgoing TV personality; until she stepped inside her flat, where loneliness, self-doubt and depression set in.

Then things got really bad. She took part in a nude photo shoot for men’s mag FHM, and soon her adoring fans became a baying mob. She tells this documentary: ‘Some people were kind and some people were unkind. It made me stay in bed for quite a long time.’ And some were very unkind. On an episode of Nevermind The Buzzcocks, host Mark Lamarr joked that he had seen ‘more than enough’ of her topless. That left her visibly upset. Her comments about that are heartbreaking. ‘Everyone was going out afterwards; I just wanted to stay home. I thought maybe it’s my fault and I deserve this sort of comment,’ she tells this revealing documentary.

Second Chance Dresses

8.30PM, RTÉ2 BUDGET-conscious bride Wendy wants a dress that reflects her edgy style and shows off her tattoo. However, her sister thinks her wedding day is the perfect time to try something more glam. Whose side is Olivia Buckland on? Bachelors Walk 10.10PM, RTÉ2 RAYMOND and Allison are in the mood for a holiday – and they’re hoping a cheap day out in Dublin will be the next best thing. Meanwhile, the thought of being a father inspires Michael to start job hunting and Barry is pursuing his dreams.

Pulp Fiction (1994)

9PM, SONY MOVIES QUENTIN Tarantino’s classic tale disturbed many film critics when it was first released, because of all that blood-spattered violence. But they just needed to get out of the art houses. Most film fans were used to this, and much more. So many classic moments and quirky comments from Travolta, back dancing again, Willis, with his Samurai sword, and the Godfearin’ gun-pumpin’ Samuel L Johnson. Órder a ‘royale with cheese’ and enjoy the show.

Absolute Power (1997)

11.35PM, TCM TOP-notch thriller written by William Goldman, with two fine stars, Clint Eastwood as the ordinary decent burglar who sees too much, and Gene Hackman as the ordinary indecent president and murderer. Eastwood directs.

The African Queen (1951)

5.05PM, SONY MOVIES ACTION JOHN Huston dragged Katherine Hepburn and Humphrey Bogart to the sweltering jungle for this unusual but engaging – and sweaty (so to speak) – romance.
