A LITTLE BIT OF MARY LOU .... AND HER PERSONAL FAVOURITES

-

MUSIC:

‘A little bit of everything. I like everything from Bob Dylan to Pearl Jam to Christy Moore to ABBA, you know, so I don’t have a single set sort of style of music that I’m into. I suppose that’s a function of having lived through different decades, you know different decades of change.’

COOKING:

‘Yesterday, I made a lovely vegetarian lasagna and I could make you a curry and I could make you any form of pasta dish. Anything with chorizo, anything with eggs... We’re quite versatile. Or you could have bangers and mash. Or you could have bacon and cabbage. So we cater in our house to all tastes and palates.’

READING:

‘The last book that I have dipped into is Wuthering Heights. I hadn’t read it in a long time. I studied literature at university so I have, over the years, read very widely but I found in political life and in the busyness of my job, I don’t get to read nearly as much as I want to.’

NETFLIX:

‘I watched that Netflix series Mindhunter… And initially I was a bit sceptical about it but, I have to tell you, it’s very, very gripping – it really got in on me.’

TIGER KING:

‘The thing about your man Joe Exotic about that zoo... Now I drew the line at that, I said I’m not watching that, it was a crazy thing. Some unfortunate had their arm bitten off by a lion or something.’

SPARE TIME:

‘When I go home, I like to lock my door and I have my domestic life, like I’m Mammy when I’m at home with two teenage children, young people. So a lot of my time is about just keeping things in order, being with my family, being with my friends. I’m a very kind of simple person in many ways, I like good company and to go for a walk, I like a good laugh. I’ve actually quite a simple life. I’m not into bungee jumping or scaling Kilimanjaro or any of the wildly exciting things that other people achieve. And I try to get the work/home balance.’
