More gloom as the summer sun will take a break until Thursday

- By Ronan Smyth

IT MAY be the middle of the summer but the weather will not be behaving like it until at least Thursday this week, forecasters say.

Conditions are going to be very changeable over the coming days, with scattered showers expected across many parts of the country, according to Met Éireann.

And Thursday is set to be the best day of the week with good spells of sunshine and temperatures increasing to between 20C and 23C.

However, this sunshine won’t last long because all indications point towards further outbreaks of rain on Friday. All this is in stark contrast to Britain which is set to experience a heatwave, bringing with it temperatures higher than the Bahamas.

By Wednesday, parts Britain will see temperatures rising to a sweltering 33C. The temperatures there are expected to exceed 30C until at least Friday this week.

A Met Éireann forecaster told the Irish Daily Mail that a band of rain that hit the country last night will push in from the southwest throughout today but that it should break up as it does so, which could lead to some places around the country remaining dry.

‘Parts of Leinster and east Munster should be staying dry, possibly through the day [today],’ said the forecaster, who added that further rain will develop later on and is mainly going to affect Connacht and Ulster.

‘There will be outbreaks of rain through Tuesday and into the start of Wednesday. So it will be quite cloudy, quite humid for Tuesday,’ she said.

‘For Wednesday, there will be rain in the east of the country but it will die out through the afternoon, so it will become mostly dry.’
