CLAUDINE Keane has revealed that her father was hospitalised with coronavirus. She said that in the weeks he was in hospital, he had spent some days in intensive care.

Ms Keane went on to raise over €80,000 for hospitals around Ireland after her father became ill.

Speaking to Kathryn Thomas on RTÉ Radio One yesterday, she said: ‘We went through a very personal experience with a family member who became very ill with Covid. It was very early on, it was relatively new.’

Ms Keane went on to say that it was her father who caught the virus, saying it was ‘personal to me’.

‘We went through a couple of weeks where he was in ICU for a few days,’ she said. ‘He wasn’t in for too long but it was still very stressful – three weeks in hospital in total. It was a tough time.’

The former model said: ‘The only people who got you through it, the only person on the other line, were the doctors and nurses.

‘It was tough. I feel you can never repay them back for the work they’ve done. It was so close to us, we felt we needed to do something.

‘We thought it would be nice to do a fundraiser, and it ended up being a success. We raised up to €82,000 in the few weeks we did it.’

The money was raised for 11 acute hospitals across Ireland. ‘They actually gave me a list of things the funds went to to help. It was amazing. Not just for Covid patients but for the staff in the hospital,’ she added.

The mother of two also spoke about how she and soccer legend husband Robbie Keane had to homeschool their children – Robert, 11, and fouryear-old Hudson.

Like many parents around the country, Ms Keane is waiting to see if the boys can go to school in a few weeks – when Hudson is due to start in Junior Infants.
