Roz had dangerous obsession with being skinny

- By Graham McGrath

ROZ Purcell has revealed she used to starve herself by eating just 400 calories a day.

The food guru and model said it was ‘upsetting’ to see how she used to obsess over keeping skinny.

Roz, 29, told RTÉ’s Unlocked podcast: ‘I found a notebook and it made me realise how far I’ve come. It’s so upsetting to read now because I ate 400 calories a day.’

According to nutritional experts, a healthy adult woman should consume 2,000 calories daily.

‘Your whole worth is what weight you are, how skinny your waist is or if you have a thigh gap,’ Roz added.

‘It’s really difficult because once you get wrapped up in that, it becomes a vicious circle. I look at it now and it’s real proof of how far I’ve come, but at the same time it’s really upsetting.’

The food enthusiast opened up about her past struggles with food and body image and her new approach to eating healthy while speaking to 2FM hosts Emma Power and Laura Fox on the podcast.

Roz admitted she still gets ‘strange thoughts’, and reassured listeners who may be in need of help that it is available. She told the hosts: ‘There is so much help out there, no matter how bad you may think you are. Do I still get strange thoughts about my food and body? Yes, but I have the tools to be able to not let it consume my day or change my habits.’

The Dubliner now often takes to Instagram to show the difference between pictures that are filtered to make women look like they have the perfect figure and real pictures. Roz often posts unflattering poses of herself on social media alongside edited pictures to reassure her followers that despite being a model, her body is not perfect.

She told followers recently: ‘Today’s #contentcontent is more of an informative one – don’t let an image tell you how you see yourself and don’t let an image make you feel like you need to change.

‘It’s strange that we will never see ourselves through someone else’s eyes, isn’t it?

‘We are always fed images of ourselves that are distorted .... even mirrors.’
