Ruby Wax’s tip for a happy marriage? Avoid your husband
RUBY Wax has revealed her secret to a happy marriage – barely seeing her husband.
The US comedienne, 67, who has been married to film and TV producer Ed Bye, 65, for 32 years, said they ‘try to lead separate lives’.
She is currently living in the couple’s home in Hertfordshire, southern England, while Bye – her third husband – is based in London. Ms Wax even rejected the notion of ‘us’, insisting: ‘The secret to my long and happy marriage? We don’t see each other much.
‘Honestly, we do try to lead separate lives and meet once in a while. You can’t depend on your partner to make you feel like you’ve got a great life – you have to do that for yourself. It’s not an “us”.’
She told Platinum women’s magazine: ‘We have our space and our separate interests, and that’s how it works. I’m here the whole time now and my husband comes back and forth. He’s like a sherpa – he brings me things.’
However, Ms Wax and Bye, whose credits include Red Dwarf and Absolutely Fabulous, did live together during the pandemic lockdown,
The mental health campaigner added: ‘I told him my real age when we were going down the aisle as I knew I’d have to put it on the marriage certificate.
‘I figured I was safe as he couldn’t leave at that point.’ The couple have three children – Max, 32, Madeleine, 30 and Marina, 27.

Bye until their wedding day in 1988. She has suffered from episodes of depression since her teenage years.
She said: ‘I married my husband intentionally because I knew that he came from an army background – they had a marvellous time in the trenches so why would depression scare him?’
She recalled: ‘As we walked down the aisle I told him that I was mentally ill and I’d been married before.
‘It was too late to turn around. It was one minute before we got married.
‘I didn’t want him to back out so I told him as soon as he started walking the last five feet. I didn’t look at him.’
Actress Sadie Frost, 55, who was once married to screen star Jude Law, recently revealed that she does not live with her partner of six years, businessman Darren Strowger. Ms Frost stressed that she is ‘not sure if we could live together’.
