Last of the summer sunshine this weekend with highs of 22C

- By Louise Burne

ALTHOUGH the children are well and truly back at school, we are expected to get just one final glimpse of summer this weekend as temperatures are set to soar to 22C.

Despite heavy rainfall in parts of the country yesterday, the showers will clear overnight to make way for a mostly dry weekend.

Met Éireann forecasters have predicted there will be ‘good sunny spells’ today.

However, you may need to bring an umbrella if you are heading out and about as there will be showers in some parts of the country.

‘It will be cloudier further north, with showers in the northwest during the morning and persistent rain developing in north Ulster in the late afternoon,’ a weather forecaster confirmed, adding there will be ‘highest temperatures of 15C to 18C’.

However, any remaining rain will clear overnight to make way for a sunny day tomorrow, with top temperatures of 22C. There will be patches of drizzle in some areas on the western coast but these are set to dry out by mid-afternoon.

There will be warm, sunny spells across the bulk of the country, although there may be ‘areas of low cloud and mist patches’ in some locations. It will be another warm night with temperatures dipping to between just 11C and 13C.

The warm weather is set to continue into next week but will be accompanied by heavy rain across the country.

Met Éireann advised: ‘Monday will be cloudy and humid with outbreaks of rain mainly over the western half of the country. Some heavy downpours are possible. Warm again with highs of 17C to 22C.’

Tuesday’s temperatures will climb to 23C but, again, it is set to be another wet and miserable day.

Next week is set to be a mixed bag with sunny spells and isolated showers.
