KEEP those wellies at the ready, the country i s set f or mor e unsettled weather this week after being blasted by rain yesterday.

‘There isn’t much diff erence i n terms of wha t ’ s happening through the days next week. It’s just showers coming in westerly, constantly,’ a Met Eireann

‘Blustery showers’

forecaster told the Irish Daily Mail yesterday.

She was speaking after the tail end of Storm Alex, which has destroyed homes and led to flash flooding in France.

Many parts of Ireland reported waves of torrential rain all day, with a yellow warning for 12 counties. This warning expired this morning at 6am.

Wind warnings were also in effect for Galway, Clare, Kerry, Donegal, Mayo, and Sligo, but they all expired last night.

The forecaster added: ‘Looking ahead to the rest of the week, it is remaining quite unsettled with a kind of mix of blustery showers.

‘Generally the trend for the rest of the week is going to be quite unsettled with blustery showers and quite cool as well with temperatures just in the high teens.

There is a risk at the moment that a low pressure system could come across the country on Wednesday night i nto Thursday which could bring very heavy rain with the potential for flooding.

However, that system is currently tracking south of the country. The model has it heading south, and then sometimes it has it jumping over Ireland. So there is uncertainty about that. Fingers crossed, etc.
