RAIDS NET €300K IN FAKE GOODS FOR CHRISTMAS

GARDAÍ have seized €300,000 worth of fake electronic goods destined for the Christmas market.

Shoppers have been saved from the heartache of being duped into buying fake electronic goods such as game console handsets and ear phones.

Gardaí raided two premises in Dublin yesterday and uncovered what was described as ‘a significan­t quantity’ of counterfei­t products, and as well as the ear phones and console handsets, USB plugs and phone chargers.

A vast amount of branded packaging was also seized.

A spokesman said the haul had a potential street value of around €300,000.

Operation Bannister, establishe­d to target criminal activity associated with counterfei­t electronic products of inferior quality, searched two premises.

This included the home of a suspect in Dublin 3 and a business premises at a business park in Oak Close, Dublin 12.

Investigat­ions are continuing with more searches and arrests expected once the goods have been thoroughly examined.

Meanwhile a man has been arrested after €620,000 worth of cannabis was seized following a search on Tuesday of a vehicle in Co. Meath.

The 32-year-old man was arrested at the scene and is being detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drugs Traffickin­g) Act 1996 at Ashbourne Garda Station as investigat­ions continue.

The seizure was made as a result of a joint intelligen­ce-led operation, conducted by Revenue’s Customs Service and the Garda National Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau.

It was part of Revenue’s joint investigat­ions targeting organised crime groups and the importatio­n, sale and supply of illegal drugs.
