Saoirse’s killer project

Ronan to play constable in 1950s-set murder mystery

SAOIRSE Ronan has landed a role to die for – or not.

The four-time Oscar nominee is set to star alongside Sam Rockwell in an untitled murder mystery movie set in 1950s London.

The film f ollows a Hollywood director who is adapting a popular West End play into a movie.

However, there is one big problem, as members of the cast are being killed off one by one.

A world-weary Inspector Stoppard (Rockwell) and overzealous rookie Constable Stalker ( Ronan) are tasked with finding the killer.

Rockwell is no stranger to the Oscars himself, having won the Best Supporting Actor trophy for his role in London-Irish playwright Martin McDonagh’s Three Bill boards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.

The new film will also star David Oyelowo, who has been in his fair share of historical movies, including Selma, A United Kingdom and Nina.

The release date for the upcoming movie is yet to be announced.

This comes after Ronan opened up about her sex scenes with Titanic’s Kate Winslet on the sets of Ammonite. The 26-year- old admitted the pair had ‘fun’ playing lesbian lovers, as 1840s paleontologist Mary Anning (Winslet) and her younger partner Charlotte Murchison (Ronan).

The Carlow actress told etonline. com: ‘I’ve been very lucky that I’ve never felt overly nervous doing sex scenes. To me, they’re so completely technical. It’s not like a kissing scene, where you’re actually kissing someone. It’s purely technical and choreographed. I’ve just always sort of seen it as that.’

Ammonite had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 11, after having its Cannes Film Festival debut cancelled. It can be streamed from next month.
