ERIN’S GOWNING GLORY

Crown star plunges into whole new role

- By Eleanor Sharples

PRINCESS Anne was always the most headstrong of Queen Elizabeth’s children. But even at her most daring she’s unlikely to have ever appeared in a dress quite like this.

Actress Erin Doherty – who played the young Anne in series three and four of The Crown – posed in the plunging gown as she gets ready to take on her next role for Netflix.

Judging by the dress and her hair, it seems Ms Doherty, 28, is keen to put some distance between herself and her role as Queen Elizabeth’s only daughter (inset). Ms Doherty was taking part in a photoshoot for Netflix as she prepares to play the female lead in thriller Rebel Ridge opposite Star Wars’ John Boyega. Filming is due to begin in March in Louisiana. It could be a challenge for Ms Doherty who has fully embraced the character of Anne for the last few years. ‘I watched and watched an interview on YouTube that Princess Anne did with Michael Parkinson, and I got all the sounds she makes from that,’ Ms Doherty told the Mail.

‘I recorded it and I’d go for walks listening to it. Then I would order a coffee in her voice to try to make it sit naturally.’

It is not yet known who will replace Ms Doherty as Anne in the final two series of The Crown. Imelda Staunton will replace Olivia Colman as the Queen and Lesley Manville will take over from Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret in the fifth and sixth series.
