Restless legs syndrome (RLS), also known as Willis-Ekbom disease, is a common condition of the nervous system that causes an overwhelming urge to move your legs, especially at night. It’s also a lesserknown symptom of Covid-19 - but there are ways to manage it, according to nutrionist Dr Daniele Crida.

Applying a reusable hot or cold pack or hot water bottle to your leg muscles can be soothing, Dr Crida suggests, also ‘taking some gentle exercise, such as yoga, walking or stretching, at the end of the day and avoiding caffeine or alcohol can help’.

A magnesium supplement like Triple Magnesium Complex, €19, available from Igennus.com and amazon. co.uk, can ease the sensations too.

#NOBUCKETS

Barnardos is calling on the people of Ireland to support #NoBuckets for Barnardos, a digital day of giving taking place this Friday. Many of the families being referred to Barnardos services are suffering a combination of the ‘toxic three’ - mental health issues, domestic violence, and addiction issues. The pandemic has had a devastating impact on vulnerable families. The public’s donation, will go directly to Barnardos work with vulnerable children. See barnardos. ie for information.

Vitamin D is being touted as a wonder vitamin in the fight against Covid - but it’s derived from the sun, something we get very little of in winter in Ireland.

By taking a daily supplement with food, Vitabiotics Ultra Vitamin D contributes to the maintenance of normal bones and teeth and supports the immune system. Ultra Vitamin D 1000IU gives you optimum strength Vitamin D in one daily tablet and is priced at €8.50, while Ultra Vitamin D 2000IU is formulated for extra strength, €11.99, pharmacies nationwide.
